Asia Society Southern California's Annual Gala Dinner
Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at the Beverly Hilton

Join Asia Society Southern California as they honor Kobe Bryant.

Kobe Bryant , Olympic Gold Medalist and the 2008 NBA MVP, will receive the “Global Ambassador Award” at the Asia Society Southern California's Annual Gala Dinner, recognizing him as an outstanding humanitarian building global bridges of good will through sport on Tuesday evening, June 30, 2009, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. We invite you to join as a sponsor and support his tireless effort to create global understanding through the power of sport.

Bryant's popularity extends beyond the United States and Asia. As a consummate bridge builder, his popularity has risen along with the growth of basketball worldwide. Last summer, Nike China launched a reality TV show called Kobe Mentu or “Kobe's Disciples.” The finalists traveled to the U.S. and their experience learning about basketball from Bryant became a six-episode documentary. Bryant's jersey is the most popular piece of NBA licensed apparel in China.

Liu Peng , Minister of China's General Administration of Sports will also be honored at the gala. Many have declared China's 2008 Summer Olympic Games as the best ever and Minister Liu was in charge of making it all happen. As the President of the Chinese Olympic Committee, Minister Liu was “the man” supervising thousands of officials and volunteers, balancing the gargantuan budget and organizing dozens of large-scale events with all eyes of the world on him.

Timothy J. Leiweke , President and CEO of AEG, the Los Angeles-based company that also owns STAPLES Center, will receive the Asia Society “Global Corporate Leadership Award.” Under his leadership, Leiweke has built AEG into one of the world's most innovative and successful sports and entertainment organizations. Recently, in partnership with the NBA, AEG announced plans to build and operate ten new arenas in China in the coming years. As part of this initiative, the joint venture has begun management of the Wukesong arena, site of the 2008 Olympic basketball games, in addition to having begun construction of an arena in Shanghai and breaking ground on another in Guangzhou.

Updated:2007-05-10

(BEIJING, May 9) -- To facilitate foreign media organizations and foreign journalists to report on the Beijing Olympic Games, Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) has compiled and officially published today the "Service Guide for Foreign Media Coverage of the Beijing Olympic Games and the Preparatory Period" (the Guide).

Download the Guide (.PDF): The Chinese Version The English Version

The publishing of the Guide is the further and concrete efforts made by the Chinese Government and BOCOG to facilitate foreign media organizations and foreign journalists to report on the Beijing Olympic Games after the promulgation of the "Regulations On Reporting Activities in China by Foreign Journalists During the Beijing Olympic Games and the Preparatory Period" which officially takes into force as of on January 1, 2007.

The Guide covers such a dozen matters as visa application, customs clearance, travel and interview, employment of Chinese mainland citizens, rental of housing and offices, application for radio frequency occupation, acquisition of a temporary driving permit, taxation and insurance with which accredited media organizations for the Beijing Olympic Games , including rights-holding broadcasters, accredited written and photographic press, as well as non-accredited media are generally concerned for the coverage of the Beijing Olympic Games. The Guide has done its best to give client-oriented interpretations to every section and detailed step by step explanation to the procedures to satisfy the needs of the media.

In addition, the Guide has announced "One-stop" service mechanism for the international media to help them solve any problems that may occur during their coverage of the Beijing Olympic Games. It is an all-round 24-hour service mechanism provided by the Beijing Olympic Media Center, which coordinates different departments of the Chinese Government to grant permits and deliver services to all the media organizations and help them solve any problems.

The compilation and publishing of the Guide show BOCOG's sincere desire to provide a convenient and friendly working environment for foreign media organizations in their coverage of the Beijing Olympic Games. The purpose to publish the Guide is to provide a brief and clear interpretation and explanation on issues concerning laws and policies for media on their working conditions and simultaneously provide easy-to-operate assistance information on relevant procedures.
